Spring 2015

May 29th, 2015

The ground is warming and the air smells of freshly cut grass and new blooms—but in the world of homeless animals, we sadly refer to this time of year as, “Kitten Season.” Although we delight in the warmer temperatures, our hearts go out to those stray and homeless felines that are giving birth to thousands of kittens who without the help of rescue, will starve or perish from neglect.

TNR programs (Trap/Neuter/Release) and Spay Neuter Clinics are crucial to the sterilization of cats and dogs and Pet Peeves has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund many of these programs. We have and will continue to prevent thousands of births and therefore thousands of deaths.

Our September 16th Fundraiser (see our Event page for details) raises and dedicates a portion of the funds to Spay/ Neuter programs. While we focus on controlling the outdoor, homeless population, we stress the importance of spaying and neutering our own pets. Bringing more puppies and kittens into the world by allowing your pet to remain intact, unless you are a professional and responsible breeder, is irresponsible and will lead to pregnancy and possible health issues for your pet. There are numerous free or low cost clinics on Long Island where all pets can be sterilized and live happy, healthier lives.

Please attend our September 16th fundraiser. We gather on the pool deck, under the stars for a delightful evening filled with cocktails, music and a great auction. The funds raised go directly towards animal friendly programs and saves neglected pets. We do this without paid staff because like you, we give back to the voiceless, from our hearts.

When you look at your lucky pet, please remember those that are not as safe, as loved or as lucky and give what you can in the spirit of Spring.

With Gratitude,

Janine
